Island Air will re-launch service to Kahului and Lanai starting April 15, just prior to ending its Kapalua service May 31, according to a media announcement by the company on Friday.

The airline will end service to the Kapalua airport in West Maui as it phases out its fleet of Dash 8 aircraft. The last flights to and from Kapalua will take place on May 31.

The airline will add new daily routes between Honolulu and Kahului and between Kahului and Lānaʻi. The new service is made possible with the recent addition of a new ATR 72 aircraft to Island Air’s fleet.

“We are pleased that we can expand service to Kahului with the addition of our new ATR 72 aircraft,” said Les Murashige, president of Island Air. “We regret that we will no longer serve Kapalua. However, as we phase out the Dash 8 aircraft which are reaching the end of their economic life, our larger aircraft will not be able to land on Kapalua Airport’s short runway.”
