Maui’s Richard Endsley and Diane Logsdon were honored with the distinction of “Outstanding Older American” in an annual awards presentation hosted by the County of Maui, officials said.
The Maui County Office on Aging announced the winners of the 45th annual awards during a presentation held at the Maui Beach Hotel on May 7.
Endsley, who volunteers in the West Maui community, was recognized for his work as President of Lahaina Intermediate School’s Education Foundation and its After-School Tutoring Project, officials said in a county issued press release.
His other volunteer work reportedly includes service with the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, the Lahaina-Honolua Senior Citizens Club, the Lahaina Town Action Committee, and Lahaina Hongwanji.
According to the announcement, fellow honoree, Logsdon, was selected for her service as Treasurer, Community Service Chair and President of the AARP Kula Chapter. She also reportedly assists with the Maui Economic Opportunity Senior Citizens Planning and Coordinating Council, and the Puunene Branch of the Maui Friends of the Library.
The awards recognize individuals for their extraordinary efforts and contributions to society.
Since the award program began on Maui in 1968, it has reportedly recognized 89 older adult volunteers including the first recipient, Wendell Crockett.
