Parts of Wailuku will be without water while crews conduct capital improvement work to replace waterlines over an 11-hour period beginning on Wednesday night.

Officials from the Maui Department of Water Supply say affected customers will be without water from 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, to 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 6.

Water officials say customers on the following streets are included in the advisory area: Loke Street; Nani Street; Kaniela Street from Main Street to Vineyard Street; Mission Street from Lower Main Street to Vineyard Street; and Vineyard Street from Kaniela Street to the east end of the street.

Department officials advise customers that they may want to flush their waterlines for a short time on Thursday morning to ensure that no sediment has accumulated, and to store water prior to the scheduled work period if necessary.

Traffic on Loke and Nani Streets will be open for local traffic only during the scheduled work, water officials said.

According to a Water Department announcement, the CIP project began in February and should be complete by October 2013.  Additional shutdowns are planned, and will be announced at a later time.

Department officials say they are replacing undersized waterlines with new lines that are capable of providing sufficient fire protection for the surrounding residents.

The Department’s 24-hour service line  is available at (808) 270-7633  if a water problem occurs.
