Maui Police Department Promotes Four to Sergeant

Four Maui officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant according to an announcement from the Maui Police Department.

The promotions include:

Nicholas Angell: is a 15 year veteran of the department who was recently certified as a crisis intervention officer. Angell began his career with the MPD in 1997 after moving to Maui from the Big Island. Since joining the department he has been assigned to Molokaʻi Patrol, Lahaina Patrol and Wailuku Patrol,where he was a field training officer and member of the Special Response Team. Before being promoted Angell was assigned to Hāna High and Elementary School as the school resource officer and D.A.R.E. Instructor.

Terence Gomez: is a 13 year veteran, and member of the department’s SPEED Team. Gomez is a graduate of St. Anthony Jr. and Sr. High School and attended Chaminade University before being hired with the MPD in February 1999. He has been assigned to Wailuku Patrol, served as a field training officer, and worked as a school resource officer at ʻĪao Intermediate School.

Shane Yoshizawa: was assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit for the past three years. He started his career with the MPD in 1995, and has served in Lahaina Patrol, as a field training officer from 2000 to 2009, and a member of Special Response Team from 2000 to 2005.

Harry Matsuura: is a 12 year veteran of the department and recipient of the Bronze Medal of Valor for his role in a house fire rescue in Lahaina in 2007. Matsuura is a 1994 Maui High graduate. He began his career with the MPD in February 2000, and has worked in Wailuku Patrol, Hāna Patrol, and Lahaina Patrol. His work included past positions as school resource officer at the Hāna High and Elementary School, D.A.R.E. Instructor, field training officer, firearms instructor, arrest and defense tactics instructor, verbal Judo instructor, and a crisis intervention officer.
