Governor Signs Emergency Proclamation in Advance of Flossie

Gov. Neil Abercrombie today signed an Emergency Proclamation on Sunday evening in preparation of Tropical Storm Flossie, which is expected to make landfall Monday morning on the eastern end of Hawaiʻi Island.

According to the Governor, the proclamation will allow the state to more effectively prepare for the arrival of Flossie.

“All parts of our emergency response system for the entire state are working together,” said Gov. Abercrombie in a press release statement. “The purpose of signing this proclamation is to ensure that state agencies have full powers necessary to best protect and serve the people of Hawaiʻi,” he said.

According to information released by the Governor’s office, local, state and federal governmental agencies and non-profit partners are coordinating efforts to minimize the impact of the projected high wind, waves and torrential rain.

The emergency proclamation includes approval for access to the major disaster funds.  The proclamation also will help to cover staff overtime and other expenses, allowing emergency procurement of needed supplies and resources, as well as activation of the National Guard, if needed, officials said.
