The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the island of Maui until 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Forecasters from the NWS say radar at around 6:36 a.m. showed moderate to heavy rainfall occurring over several locations.
Radar imagery also showed additional showers moving into the southeast side of the island from the east, officials said.
The advisory includes, but is not limited to Kahakuloa, Kahului, Nāhiku, and Kīpahulu.
As a precaution, the public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Authorities also remind pedestrians and motorists not to cross fast flowing water in a vehicle or on foot.
