US Senator Brian Schatz today, announced the distribution of $800,000 in federal funds to the County of Maui Department of Transportation for its ADA compliant Bus Stop Shelter and Signage Program.

According to Sen. Schatz, the funding will be used for the construction of shelters with site improvements at various locations on the island of Maui.

In a statement issued today, Sen Schatz said the grant will encourage equal access to transportation service, help ease traffic congestion, and aid in efforts to move away from dependence on foreign oil.

The project was selected on a competitive basis from the Federal Transit Administration’s Bus Livability Initiative, said Sen. Schatz.
