Maui Graduates Earn JCS Scholarships
By Maui Now Staff
Two recent high school graduates on Maui are the recipient of the latest round of scholarship funds released by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui.
King Kekaulike High School graduate Anna Gragas, and HP Baldwin High School graduate Stacie Cuadro, were awarded $1,000 scholarships each.
Gragas plans to attend Chapman University; while Cuadro will major in history or political science, and minor in Japanese, when she attends Linfield College.
Gragas has been studying taiko for nine years and participated in the two-week Hawaiʻi-Okinawan student exchange program in 2011. Cuadro’s contributions to the Japanese culture included help with the 60th Maui Chrysanthemum Festival, participation in the Young Buddhist Association, and performance in traditional Japanese dance with Nakayama Minyo Kai.
