Repairs Completed on Hāna Sink Hole

County officials have since issued a clarification saying the repairs were to a water line that had broken.
Several county advisories had been issued describing the condition as a “sink hole.”
According to County Communications Director Rod Antone, East Maui work crews said the broken water line feeds into the County Garage building.
The line was repaired by the Maui Department of Water Supply this morning, and the road was reopened at 9:45 a.m.

Hāna Highway between Uakea Road and Kaʻuiki Street in East Maui is now OPEN as of 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
It was closed earlier as crews repaired a sink hole found over the weekend. Repairs are now complete.

County crews are conducting road repairs in East Maui where a sink hole was found over the weekend.
The repairs resulted in the closure of the Hāna Highway at Uakea Road to Kaʻuiki Street at 7:47 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
County officials say the closure is expected to last for four hours.
In the interim, motorists are being re-routed through Uakea Road.
