Feral Cats, Chickens Subject of Maui Forum TONIGHT
By Wendy Osher
A public forum focusing on issues surrounding feral cats and chickens on Maui, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.
The meeting is being run in partnership between the Office of the Mayor, the Maui Humane Society, and the Humane Society of the United States.
Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa issued a statement saying feral chickens and cats have become a significant problem in the community.
He said it’s imperative that well-researched control methods be deployed in a strategic and humane manner. Hopes are that the discussion will lead to a workable solution, he said.
The Maui Humane Society’s Jocelyn Bouchard, and County Environmental Director Rob Parsons are among the individuals slated to participate in the discussion.
