Monsanto Donates $44,800 to Human Services on Maui

The Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company, issued a total of $44,800 in grant funds to various county agencies and non-profit groups on Maui, the company announced.

The grants are apparently part of the fund’s US Seed Site Grant Program, with donations allocated to select organizations for projects that fit within focus areas of K-12 Education or Human Services.

Some organizations highlighted in the announcement include:

• Women Helping Women: Funds received will help to cover expenses for women and families fleeing domestic violence.
• Hale Makua: Assistance with the purchase of a new oven for the organization’s kitchen, which currently produces more than 950 meals per day.
• Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation: Funds go toward a capital campaign to improve the hospital’s Heart, Brain and Vascular Center.
• Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety: Received funding for the procurement of a portable skid mount pump for to assist in fighting brush fires in remote areas.

In a company-issued press release, Monsanto Maui Community Affairs Manager Carol Reimann said, “We are very grateful to these agencies for providing valuable services for our community. Monsanto and its employees recognize the importance of giving back to our community and we are committed to making lives better.”
