VIDEO: Maui Fair Attendance Up 1.8% So Far

Attendance at the 91st Maui Fair is up so far after preliminary gate totals were tallied from opening night on Thursday.

Maui Fair Managing Director Sherri Grimes said paid admission was up by about 1.8% from previous year totals.

Day two of the 91st Maui Fair gets underway today with featured entertainment by Mailani at 7 p.m. and Nuff Sedd at 8:30 p.m. under the Entertainment Tent.

Other entertainment includes a talent show at 5:30 p.m., Hilarious Hypnosis with Joel and Tarah at 10 p.m., and a chance to win two round-trip tickets to any destination on Alaska Airlines.

Gates open at 5 p.m. tonight and remain open until midnight.

In the events arena the schedule includes: Haleakalā Ranch 125th Anniversary Celebration at 6 p.m.; Hawaiian Edible & Medicinal Plants at 6:45 p.m.; Worm Composting at 7:20 p.m.; and Movie “When the Mountain Calls” by Tom Vendetti at 8:45 p.m.

The Livestock and Poultry tent features: a racing pigeon toss at 5 p.m.; Animal Assisted Therapy at 5 p.m.; and miniature horse show at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Today is also a Special Fair Day for individuals with physical or mental limitations that otherwise preclude them from attending the fair during regular hours.  All special guests, assistants and volunteers were registered in advance.

The Special Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes the following entertainment:

• Zenshin Daiko at 10 a.m.;
• Welcome by Mayor Alan Arakawa at 10:20 a.m.;
• Piʻilani Arias Duo at 10:30 a.m.;
• Mikey Mina and Friends at 11:45 a.m.; and
• Maui Cartoon Characters from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

Events Arena: Presented by HawaiʻiUSA Federal Credit Union, this is the Maui Fair’s newest venue. In addition to the popular Chili Cook-Off, Lego Competition and “First” Robotics exhibition, there will also be demonstrations, educational information, our own Maui talents, and interactive fun.

Healthy Baby Contest: (Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013) Promoting the health and well-being of Maui’s keiki, the Meadow Gold community event returns to the Maui Fair Entertainment Tent Stage, with check-in at 9 a.m. check-in, and event start at 10 a.m.

Robotics “FIRST” Demo: (Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6, 2013) 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. fronting the Events Arena, with an exhibit hosted by the HP Baldwin High School Robotics Team.

Lego Competition: (Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013) 10 a.m. at the Events Arena. Sponsored by AIA Maui.

Wristband Day: (Saturday, October 5, 2013) Purchase a 10-ride wristband for $30 between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wristband sales end at 2:30 p.m. Ride tabs expire at 6 p.m. Ride tabs are valid on any ride for which the customer meets the height requirement. There will be no refunds and no exchanges.

Chili Cook-Off: (Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013) The 9th Annual Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety’s “Who’s Got the Heat” Chili Cook-off Fundraiser runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Maui Fair’s Events Arena fronting the War Memorial Pool. There will be a special drawing to win round-trip airfare for two to any of Alaska Airlines destination, compliments of this year’s Entertainment Tent sponsor. Proceeds from samples benefit the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Patient’s Transportation fund.

2013 Cheer Spirit Showcase: (Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Entertainment Tent. This event is not a competition, but an exhibition to showcase the spirited talents of island cheerleaders.

Discount Ride Day & Fun Factory Day at the Fair: (Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013) The first 2,000 people through the gate on Sunday get in free, courtesy of Fun Factory. Also on Sunday, all rides are discounted.

Exhibits everyday: This includes Horticulture, Hobbies & Crafts, Livestock & Poultry, Student Art, Bonsai, Photography, Orchids, and more.

Friday, Oct. 4, 5 p.m. to midnight
Saturday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to midnight
Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Admission:
Adults: $7
Keiki: $3 for ages 5 to 11-year-olds
Children: 4 and under are admitted free of charge

Fair Park & Ride Shuttle:  The Fair Shuttle is a free service with buses running continuously approximately every 10 to 20 minutes.  Park & Ride locations include: The Maui County Building Parking Lot on High Street in Wailuku; Wells Park Parking Lot on Wells Street in Wailuku; the UH Maui College Soccer Fields on Wahinepiʻo Avenue in Kahului; and Keōpūolani Park in Kahului.  The schedule includes the following: Thursday, Oct. 3, 4:30 to 11:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 4, 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; Saturday, Oct. 5, 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 6, 6 to 11:30 p.m.  Additional Bus Service info is also available at the Maui Fair website.
