Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Kawamoto

Flags fly at half staff on Thursday in honor of the late former state Senator Cal Kawamoto, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced.
Kawamoto served in the state Legislature from 1994 to 2004, where he held a leadership role as the chair of the Senate Transportation and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.
Kawamoto was also recognized as a longtime advocate for the community of Waipahu on Oʻahu.
Prior to running for office, Kawamoto served for 20 years in the US Air Force and was a veteran fighter pilot, according to state officials.

Kawamoto reportedly died on Sept. 22 in Honolulu at age 73.
