Native Hawaiian Scholarship Workshops Begin

The University of Hawai’i is offering a series of scholarship workshops for native Hawaiians interested in pursuing a college education.

The effort is part of a statewide initiative held in partnership with several agencies including the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, to bring scholarship opportunities to under-served communities across the state.

The workshops offer information on resources and financial aid available to native Hawaiians.

The Native Hawaiian Scholarship ‘Aha presentations are open to high school students, parents, teachers, current college students and anyone interested in learning about criteria and eligibility requirements.

The full list of workshop meetings in Maui County include:

• Kahului: Thursday, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m. at the UH Maui College Pilina Building.
• Hāna: Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at the Hāna High School Cafeteria.
• Lāna‘i City: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at the Lāna‘i School Cafeteria.
• Kaunakakai: Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, 6-8 p.m., at Kūlana ‘Ōiwi.

The workshops are sponsored by the University of Hawai‘i, GEAR UP Hawai‘i, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Pacific Financial Aid Association, and the Native Hawaiian Education Association.
