A 66-year-old man was air lifted from the Hōlua Cabins at Haleakalā National Park Tuesday afternoon after experiencing heart problems, officials said.
Firefighters and rescue personnel from the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety were dispatched to the crater at around 3:24 p.m.
According to department reports, the man was airlifted in stable condition from the Hōlua Cabins to a landing zone at just below the 7,000-foot elevation at Hosmer Grove, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Fire officials say the patient was turned over to rangers from the National Park Service who were on scene.
Further details, including the patient’s identity or hometown, were not immediately available.
