Flags Lowered in Remembrance of Health Director Fuddy

Flags in Hawaiʻi will be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Dec. 21, in honor of state Health Director, Loretta Fuddy, whose memorial services will be held on that day.

Governor Neil Abercrombie, who ordered the lowering of the flags said it is being done as a mark of respect for her memory.

Fuddy was appointed to Governor’s Cabinet in December 2010 as first deputy director for the DOH, and then as director on March 2, 2011.

She previously served as chair of the Hawaiʻi Public Health Association, president of the Association of State and Territorial Public Health Social Workers, treasurer and secretary of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, and a member of the Policy Committee of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers, the governor said.

Fuddy died on Dec. 11 in a plane crash off of Kalaupapa, Molokaʻi.

Flags will be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies as well as the Hawaiʻi National Guard from sunrise to sunset on Saturday.
