Flood Advisory Issued for Maui
By Wendy Osher
A flood advisory is in effect for the island of Maui until 3:15 p.m. today, according to a new forecast issued by the National Weather Service.
At 12:06 p.m., NWS forecasters said radar showed heavy rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the area between and upslope from Kaupō to Hāna.
Other locations included in the advisory are Kīpahulu and Hāmoa.
The public is reminded to stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. Pedestrians and motorists are also reminded not to cross fast-flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.
The NWS says, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
The advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
