Hawaiian Airlines today announced plans to add daily non-stop service between Los Angeles and Maui this summer.

The service is expected to add more than 120,000 air seats to both travel markets when it launches on July 1, 2014, according to the announcement.

The airline says the addition of the year-round service is in response to increasing demand from the Southern California market.

“The island of Maui continues to grow as a popular visitor destination and also serves as an ideal transit point for neighbor island and US mainland travel,” said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian Airlines executive vice president and chief commercial officer in a press release statement.

“We’ve seen tremendous demand from both Southern California travelers and our kama’āina, and we’re very pleased to offer this new daily non-stop service for them,” said Ingram.

The outgoing flights from Kahului Airport will depart at 3:40 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 11:55 p.m. The return flights to Maui depart LAX at 11:15 a.m., and arrive in Kahului at 1:45 p.m.

The airline will utilize an Airbus 330-200, which can accommodate up to 294 passengers.

The airline says the new service offers “convenient connections” to Hawaiʻi from other cities on the US mainland; and an “alternative connecting point” for travel to other islands once passengers arrive on Maui.
