Island Subaru Donates $7,500 to Maui SPCA

The SPCA Maui will receive a $7,500 check from Island Subaru as part of a “Share the Love” charitable sales event that raised $30,000 for four island non-profit organizations.

Under the event, $250 from each new vehicle sold by Subaru Hawaiʻi dealers between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31. was donated, the company said in a press release announcement.

Checks in the amount of $7,500 each are being issued to: Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaiʻi, American Red Cross Hawaiʻi State Chapter, SPCA Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island Humane Society.

The Hawaiʻi Island Humane Society will receive an additional $5,000 after earning the most votes in a Subaru Hawaiʻi Facebook competition for favorite participating non-profit, the company announced.

A check presentation to the SPCA Maui will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

“SPCA Maui knows the solution to ending ‘homeless cats and dogs’ is to ‘fix’ them though with the rising costs of spay and neuter procedures many Maui pet parents can’t afford,” said SPCA Maui executive director Peter Tierney in a joint press release. “Subaru Hawaiʻi’s Share the Love helps us provide affordable ‘fixes’ for Maui’s dogs and cats that everyone can afford,” said Tierney.
