A flood advisory has been issued for the island of Maui until 5:45 p.m on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say radar at 3:42 p.m. showed heavy rain moving into the leeward west Maui area.

“Additional heavy showers were southwest of the area, moving at 10 to 15 mph,” the NWS forecast stated.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Lahaina, Nāpili, Kapalua, Kahakuloa, Kāʻanapali, Honolua, Honokōwai, and Honokōhau.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.  Motorists area also reminded of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action on the roads.
