Packing tape and gloves are among the latest items found by search teams looking for a missing pregnant woman on Maui, friends of the family have confirmed.

Crews are focusing their search efforts today at Honomanū Bay, “in light of new evidence,” involving 27-year-old Carly “Charli” Scott of Makawao who went missing on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.

The woman’s clothing and blanket were found at Nuaʻailua Bay on Thursday — an area known to some as “Paraquat’s Beach” located just east of Honomanū Bay.

The packing tape was found by the same group who found her clothing and blanket; and the gloves were found by a separate search team in an area nearby, said Katie McDougall, a family friend who is helping with the search.

According to McDougall, a pair of Charli’s shoes were also found by police.

When asked on Friday about new evidence in the case, Maui police Lieutenant William Juan said “any evidence still has to be thoroughly investigated to prove or disprove that it has any connection to the case.”

On Monday, Lt. Juan said the department did not have a press conference planned, but would advise if that were to change.

In the meantime, family members and friends plan to attend the Kīhei Community Association meeting that is scheduled to begin at 6:30 tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Kīhei Charter School located at 41 Līpoa Street in South Maui.

Search teams say they hope the meeting will generate dialogue with the Maui Police Department relating to the case and at least one other missing person case on Maui.

Aside from the latest findings, family members say the woman’s dog, who was with her when she went missing, was found near the Nāhiku Market Place on Monday, and her vehicle was located on Wednesday night in Peʻahi, mauka of the surf spot known as “Jaws.”

While other media outlets have reported a $10,000 reward for anyone with information leading to Scott’s rescue or recovery, McDougall confirmed that the money has been pledged, but the family is awaiting some legal issues to be solved and the correct procedures to be put into place before posting the reward.

Background Information:

Carly “Charli” Joann Scott, 27, was last known to have left the Haʻikū area on Sunday night to assist her ex-boyfriend, who family members say asked for help in getting his car pulled out of an area near mile marker 20 of the Hāna Highway.

The woman’s ex-boyfriend, Steven Capobianco, spoke in an interview with Mileka Lincoln of Hawaii News Now, in which he answered questions about his account of what happened on Sunday night. He claimed that after he got his truck back on the road, they drove back in separate vehicles and he lost sight of her headlights around the Twin Falls area near ʻUlalena Road. Capobianco didn’t suspect anything was wrong. (That transcript can be found here.)

Scott was five months pregnant when she went missing, and family members have since confirmed that the sex of the unborn child — which was supposed to be a surprise — is a boy.

The woman’s dog, who was with her when she went missing, was found near the Nāhiku Market Place on Monday, and family members say her vehicle was located on Wednesday night in Peʻahi, mauka of the surf spot known as “Jaws.”  Scott’s clothing and blanket were found on Thursday at Nuaʻailua Bay just East of Honomanū. The items are located over a span of 25 to 30 miles apart.

Anyone with information that led to Scott’s disappearance is asked to call Detective Wendell Loo at (808) 270-6516 during business hours or (808) 268-2763 after hours.

Family and friends also launched an online anonymous tip survey where the public can provide anonymous tips on Scott’s whereabouts or information that led to her disappearance.

Family members have been providing updates via a Facebook page to assist in disseminating information regarding the case.
