Sabers Claim MIL Opener Against Na Alii, 6-5

It was just one win. In fact, it was the season opener for Maui High School, but it took more than four hours and 15 innings to complete.
The Sabers opened the 2014 Maui Interscholastic League baseball schedule on Thursday with a 6-5 win over King Kekaulike at Maehara Stadium.
Kody Medeiros’ RBI single in the top of the 15th inning scored Trent Hori with the winning run. Hori reached based earlier when he was hit by a pitch.
Maui High’s David Kahaleauki, Kyle Oshiro and Logan Cabrera combined to allow one run in eight innings of relief. Starter Callen Beeson went seven innings and left with the scored deadlocked at 4-4. Cabrera earned the win, 1-0.
Na Alii fell to 1-2.
Adam “Beanie” Howden hurled the first nine innings and lefty Stone Hashizaki (0-1) pitched the final six innings for Na Alii.
The two teams play again tonight, March 28, at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, Kamehameha Schools Maui (2-0) defeated Lahainaluna (0-2) for the second straight day. The Warriors won Thursday’s game 11-3 and Wednesday’s game 5-1.
