Maui Nui Botanical Garden Kalo Workshop, May 31

The Maui Nui Botanical Gardens hosts a Kalo workshops on Saturday, May 31, to share information about unique varieties and the extraordinary significance of taro in Hawai‘i.

The session will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens in Kahului, and will be led by kalo farmer Hōkūao Pellegrino.

The workshop is sponsored by the Fred Baldwin Foundation, Ceres Trust, County of Maui Office of Economic Development, and the Department of Water Supply.

Participants will learn how to prepare and taste poi grown and harvested on Maui.

• Saturday, July 19, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Intro to Kapa Dye Making with Lisa Schattenburg-Raymond and Lei Ishikawa;
• Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: ‘Awa Workshop with Kapono‘ai Molitau;
• Saturday, August 2, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Intro to Kapa Dye Making with Lisa Schattenburg-Raymond and Lei Ishikawa;
• Saturday, September 27, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Mai‘a (Banana) Workshop with Angela K. Kepler
