Maui Road Work: Kahului, Kāʻanapali, Māʻalaea
By Wendy Osher
Several state transportation projects are planned this week that will result in lane closures or detours in Kahului, Kāʻanapali, and Māʻalaea.
In Kahului, resurfacing work will result in lane closures on the Hāna Highway in both directions between Hanakai Street and Hoʻokele Street from Monday, May 19 to Friday May 23. Traffic will be limited in the area and motorists can expect delays.
In Kāʻanapali, night work is planned on the Honoapiʻilani Highway between Kahana Nui Road and Kāʻanapali Parkway between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Transportation officials say the work will result in two lane closures in both directions as crews conduct road repairs.
In Māʻalaea, there are three projects planned this week including the following:
- On the Honoapiʻilani Highway road repairs are planned from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Kuihelani Highway and Kapoli Street. This project will result in a lane closure in both directions through Friday, May 23.
- On North Kīhei Road, crews will conduct road repairs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. between the Honoapiʻilani Highway and the Piʻilani Highway. The project will result in lane closures in both directions through Friday, May 23.
- On the Kūihelani Highway, road repairs are planned from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. daily. The project will result in a lane closure on the Kūihelani Highway in the northbound direction between the Honoapiʻilani Highway and Puʻunēnē Avenue through Friday May 23.
Officials with the state Department of Transportation say the lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice, and all projects are weather permitting.
