Maui Celebrates National Senior Health & Fitness Day

The County of Maui celebrates the 21st Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day today with a proclamation signing at noon on the front lawn of the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku.
The proclamation will be followed by an EnhanceFitness demonstration featuring program trainers and participants. The Maui County Office on Aging will also be on hand for program giveaways, and to distribute evidence-based Wellness Program brochures for EnhanceFitness classes and “Better Choices, Better Health” workshops.
Event organizers say more than 100,000 older adults will participate in locally-sponsored “National Senior Health and Fitness Day” events at more than 1,000 locations across the country today.
County officials say the goal of today’s event is to promote the importance of regular physical activity and to showcase what local organizations are doing to improve the health and fitness of older adults in their communities.
Also in recognition of National Senior Health and Fitness Day, an hour-long SeniorFit brown bag lunch will be held in Kīhei at 1 p.m. today at Maui Powerhouse Gym, located at 1279 South Kīhei Road #118. The activity is as well as the County’s EnhanceFitness program is offered at the gym to both members and non-members.
