Maui firefighters responded to a fire reported at 9:14 a.m. at a construction site located at 120 Kane Street in Kahului.
Upon arrival at 9:20 a.m., firefighters found about 3,000 square feet of construction material on fire with an office trailer being exposed to the fire, said Maui Fire Captain Kris Sakamoto.
The fire was located next to the Foodland supermarket in Kahului on property of the old Maui Land and Pine Cannery near the HFM construction business.
A 35-year-old construction worker was injured while attempting to control the fire before crews arrived on scene and was treated for shortness of breath due to smoke inhalation, said Capt. Sakamoto.
The fire also resulted in the temporary closure of Kane Street from Kamehameha Avenue to the entrance of Foodland.
Damages caused by the fire were estimated at $210,000 to the building materials and office trailer, said Capt. Sakamoto.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Maui fire officials.
The fire was brought under control at 10 a.m., and was extinguished at 11:30 a.m.
Units responding to the scene included Rescue 10 and Hazmat 10 and Engine 10 out of Kahului.
