Maui’s Suzuki Named American League All-Star
By Rodney S. Yap
Maui’s Kurt Suzuki of the Minnesota Twins was named to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his seven-year career today.
ESPN.com announced Suzuki’s selection as a reserve catcher during its live television selection show this afternoon.
The Twins are set to host this year’s All-Star Game at Target Field on July 15, and they’ll be sending two representatives to the Midsummer Classic, including hometown closer Glen Perkins.
The former Baldwin standout is enjoying a career year at the plate, hitting .306 with two homers and 34 RBI in 71 games. His batting average has been among the league leaders throughout the season and he has already surpassed his RBI total from last year.
The 30-year-old Wailuku resident batted .429 during the past week and is hitting .438 for July.
