The makers of Ocean Organic Vodka on Maui announced plans to expand their market to include the production of rum.
On September 1st, parent company, Hawaiʻi Sea Spirits, will introduce its “ultra premium” Deep Island Hawaiian Rum made from organic sugar cane and blended with deep ocean mineral water.
Company executives announced that the new rum product is being produced at the company’s distillery in Kula on Maui and will be available for purchase and sampling at the company farm beginning Sept. 1. Distribution throughout the state will launch on Oct. 1.
Hawaiʻi Sea Spirits plans a limited release for introduction of their new rum in Hawai‘i this year, and a full release in markets on the US mainland beginning in 2015.
The Deep Island Hawaiian Rum is described as “a little sweet with hints of tropical florals and rich dark molasses.”
“Deep Island Hawaiian Rum was inspired by our appreciation for sugar cane as a truly remarkable ingredient in creating distilled spirits,” said Hawaiʻi Sea Spirits Master Distiller, Bill Scott in a company press release.
“It’s not only our goal but our passion to produce the cleanest, most mixable, luxurious spirits that showcase the unique qualities of the organic sugar cane and deep ocean mineral water blend,” he said.
Hawaiʻi Sea Spirits chief executive officer Shay Smith also commented saying the rum Deep Island Hawaiian Rum embodies the spirit of the islands.
“Not only are the Hawaiian Islands the deepest in the world, but also our way of life is deeply rooted in horticultural nurturing. This particular clear rum is dubbed “WAVE” to further depict our respect for the energy in water that brings life to our islands,” said Smith.
As part of the product launch, Hawaiʻi Sea Spirits will offer free tours at its Kula distillery on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours will be conducted every 30 minutes and feature a meet and greet with Master Distiller Bill Scott.
