Applications for the 2015 Lānaʻi Axis deer hunting season are now available through the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Due to a Dec. 31, 2007 appellate court ruling, application fees for the 2015 Lānaʻi Axis deer season have been waived.  Pending approval of rules regulating game mammal hunting, tag fees may be implemented for this hunt.

The 2015 Lānaʻi Axis deer season consists of three hunts:

  • Archery Only Hunt: will be held over eight consecutive days, beginning Feb. 21, 2015 and ending on Feb. 28, 2015.
  • Muzzleloading Hunt: will be conducted for two consecutive weekends on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8; and March 14 and 15, 2015.
  • General Rifle Hunt: will be held over nine consecutive weekends on Saturday and Sunday, beginning March 21, 2015 and ending on May 17, 2015.

Applications for all hunts may be submitted in-person or mailed, to the Maui Division of Forestry and Wildlife Office, 54 South High Street, Rm 101, Wailuku, HI 96793.  Lānaʻi residents only should mail or deliver their applications to the Lānaʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife Office at 917 Fraser Avenue, PO Box 630661, Lānaʻi City, HI 96763.

The deadline to submitting applications is at 4 p.m. on Friday Nov. 21, 2014. Department officials say interested hunters are encouraged to submit applications well before the application deadline to insure proper processing.

Department officials say hunters should pay particular attention to the hunt instruction sheet and addendum for additional changes in the application process.
