Maui Senator English Named Majority Leader

The Hawai‘i State Senate announced its new leadership team, which includes Maui’s J. Kalani English, who will serve as Majority Leader during the upcoming 28th Legislature.

Senator English, who serves the East Maui, and neighbor island communities of Maui County will work to address a number of fiscal challenges with a focus on sustainability and resiliency as the overall theme.

“We will work diligently to ensure that all of Hawaiʻi’s people move forward together,” said Senator English in a press release announcement.

Fellow Maui Senator Gil Keith Agaran will lead the Judiciary and Labor Committee, while Senator Roz Baker will head up the Senate’s Consumer Protection Committee.

The body will continue to be led by senate president Donna Mercado Kim, while Senator Will Espero of ʻEwa Beach will serve as Vice President.

The legislative session is scheduled to convene on January 21, 2014.
