Dear Mayor Arakawa:

QWhen will the county be painting the parking stalls near the stadium? Is the reason we haven’t repainted the lines because the parking lot will be paved in the near future?

A: You’re right: Even before it is restriped, our primary focus is on obtaining funding to have the well-worn stadium parking lot repaved. Back in 2007, a consultant was contracted by the county to design reconstruction of the War Memorial Stadium parking lot; however, the resulting design’s engineering estimate came with a pricetag of $2.251 million. We are currently working with the county Department of Public Works to utilize our in-house paving team to reduce the cost of this project. My budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year will again include funds for the repaving. If the County Council approves the money, we can move forward on upgrading this high-use parking lot.
