UPDATE: Molokai’s DeCoite Sworn in as New House Representative

Lynn DeCoite, the newly selected candidate for the District 13 House seat, was sworn in today during the regular session of the state House.
DeCoite was appointed to the vacant post created by the resignation of late Rep. Mele Carroll.
In a press release statement today, DeCoite said, “This is a bittersweet day for me and my family. I know I have some big shoes to fill. I am grateful for having the opportunity to get to know Rep. Carroll. She was my representative, my friend, and she was my family.”
DeCoite continued saying, “I know I have a lot to learn. I am committed to setting forth with an open mind and to do the best for District 13, the people of East Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. I am thankful for this opportunity and will not take it for granted.”
In her new capacity as District 13 Representative, DeCoite will serve on the House Committee on Finance along with the committees on: Agriculture; Economic Development & Business; Tourism; and Veterans, Military, & International Affairs, & Culture and the Arts.

This is an opportunity for me to help address issues like drought, food gathering and security, emergency response programs, and the promotion of economic development for small and large businesses.”

DeCoite was appointed to the vacant post created by the resignation of late Rep. Mele Carroll.
The Molokaʻi resident lives in Hoʻolehua on Molokaʻi where she is an owner of L&R Farm Enterprises and R.J.’s Snacks and co-owner of V-8 Ranch.
She will represent the district that includes Haʻikū, Hāna, Kaupō, Kīpahulu, Nāhiku and Pāʻia on Maui, as well as the islands of Kahoʻolawe, Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi and Molokini. The session is scheduled to convene at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, with role introductions and the oath of office to follow.
The brief ceremony will be conducted by Hawaiʻi Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald in the House Chambers at the state Capitol.
