Crews from the Maui Fire Department were called to assist an injured hiker at Twin Falls on Maui over the weekend.

Department officials say the 49-year-old man suffered a severe ankle injury after jumping from a 5-foot ledge and landing on uneven rocks.

The incident was reported at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Fire personnel from Engine 2 out of Pāʻia worked to stabilize the victim, and with the assistance from Rescue 10, managed to carry the man through approximately 300 yards of rough terrain to awaiting medics.

The man was transported by ambulance to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
