Masters of Hawaiian Music Series Seeks Funding for New Films
George Kahumoku Jr., The Slack Key Show and Makai Studios have announced the continuation of the Masters of Hawaiian Music Film Series with the creation of two new films in 2015.
The artists being documented in 2015 are Martin Pahinui and Brother Noland; $60,000 is needed to make these films.
Previous film projects include the documentaries “Seeds Of Aloha,” “Richard Hoʻopiʻi, The Timeless Voice” and “Dennis Kamakahi, The Legend of Grey Wolf.”
Continuing with Uncle George’s desire to document the lives and musical careers of his friends and peers through film, the Masters of Hawaiian Music Film Series is soliciting funding support to create two new films from the unique perspective of the artists. These films, which help carry Hawaiian music and culture forward to future generations, are a bridge to the past for children of the future.
The two new films will likely follow the successful path of the previous two, targeting PBS broadcasting, online distribution and traditional DVD releases.
The films will also be made available to Hawaiʻi’s teaching institutions for educational use.
The films will each explore individual musicians–documenting their biography, their musical career and their influence in both Hawaiian music and the Hawaiian community.
Kahumoku will serve as the host for each film; nterviews with the featured artist and others will then tell the story.
