VIDEO: Brush Fire Burns One Acre Mauka of Lahaina Aquatic Center

An estimated one acre of brush burned in a fire mauka of the Lahiana Aquatic Center in West Maui on Saturday afternoon, June 20, 2015.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 2:05 p.m. near Shaw Street, and arrived to find an area of grass and brush burning.

A water tanker and heavy equipment from a nearby construction company were already on scene working to keep the fire from spreading.

Three crews from Lahaina and Nāpili and two fire department water tankers responded to the incident.

The fire was called contained at 2:43 p.m.

Crews continued to monitor the area as it continued to smolder into the afternoon.

Maui Fire Service Officer Edward Taomoto said it is unclear what caused the fire.
