UPDATE
July 8, 3:40 p.m.
T
he high surf advisory has been canceled.

The National Weather Service has continued its the high surf advisory for the south-facing shores of Maui County until 6 p.m. this evening.

Expect surf of 5 to 8 feet along south-facing shores through today. (Surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.)

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion. Expect strong, breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents which will make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.

Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation.
