Waikapū Residents Urged to Attend Community Park Meeting

The County of Maui department of Parks and Recreation will present conceptual designs for the Waikapū Community Center Expansion and Waikapū Park Basketball Court Reconstruction projects at an upcoming meeting of the Waikapū Community Association.

The special membership meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015.

County officials say they hope to gain feedback and support of the projects at the meeting from the Waikapū community.

Design consultant Riecke, Sunnland Kono Architects, Ltd. will be conducting the presentation for the project at the meeting.

The Waikapū Community Center Expansion project involves the renovation and expansion of the existing community center, to include the expansion of the hall, improvements to the restrooms, kitchen, roof and ceiling, and interior and exterior painting.

The Waikapū Park Basketball Court Reconstruction project will include the complete reconstruction of the existing basketball court at the same location, to include demolition and replacement of base course, sport-court type surfacing of the basketball court, and replacement of the basketball standards.

The project will also include the demolition of the existing restroom and closure of the existing cesspool, to be replaced with ADA parking.
