By Maui Now Staff
The application period opens today for the popular Keiki Tilapia Fishing Tournament hosted by Maui Electric Company and the Kā‘anapali Golf Course.
The 7th Annual event is scheduled to take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Kā‘anapali Golf Course Pond.
Registration forms for the event, which benefits Maui United Way, are available at the Maui Electric Customer Service Lobby, New Maui Fishing Supply, Maui Sporting Goods, Kā‘anapali Golf Course Logo Shop and online at the company’s website.
The event is open to youth between the ages of two and 18, for a registration fee of $20 per participant. The registration fee includes an event t-shirt.
Registration is limited to 600 participants and will close when the cap is met or on the Monday, August 17 deadline, whichever comes first.
During this “tag and release” event, youth will be vying for the “Biggest Tilapia” of the day in their age category.
Last year, more than 100 Maui Electric employees and their families helped to organize and volunteer at the event that raised nearly $15,000 for Maui United Way, a non-profit organization that raises and invests corporate and individual donations in 40 health and human services partner agencies and 41 programs to benefit the Maui County community.
