Bailey House Museum Celebrates Summer with Moonlight Mele

The Maui Historical Society will hold its summer Moonlight Mele concert with George Kahumoku and Friends on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the historic Bailey House Museum’s lawn in Wailuku Town.

Special guest Neal Yamamura will join Uncle George, along with the University of Hawai‘ Maui College’s Institute of Hawaiian Music and the keiki of Hālau Nā Hanona Kūlike O Pi‘ilani.

Admission is $5; children under 12 will be admitted at no charge.

Keiki activities will center around the Hawaiian moon calendar. Food, beer, wine, kamboocha and ‘awa will be available for purchase. Activities will also include free guided museum tours and Kealopiko’s Moon Phase Project.

“There’s nothing like listening to live Hawaiian music under the stars,” said Executive Director Sissy Lake-Farm. “You’ll feel like you’re at a private family party. We want to support local musicians and provide authentic, safe and comfortable family entertainment for our Maui community. One of the goals of Moonlight Mele is to promote a stronger sense of community throughout Wailuku Town and Maui, and the Bailey House grounds provide an excellent space for families to enjoyHawaiian music under the full moon.”

Moonlight Mele with George Kahumoku and Friends is a monthly outdoor concert series at the Bailey House Museum, sponsored by the Maui Historical Society and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. The series aims to be a vehicle to promote Hawaiian cultural practices and reinvigorate community ownership of Wailuku Town.

The Bailey House Museum is operated by the Maui Historical Society, a 501(c)3 nonprofit incorporated in 1956.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
