Haleakalā National Park will close the back country area at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 due to the current forecast path for Tropical Storm Guillermo.

The park will re-assess conditions and re-open the back country for hiking, camping, and cabin use once it is safe to do so, park officials said in an announcement.

All back country campers and cabin users have been informed about the closure. Cabin users have also been informed on how to get refunds.

Park officials will continue to monitor the storm and assess park conditions.
