The Society for Human Resource Management Hawai‘i Chapter will offer an employee management workshop, “Stimulate Rather Than Perpetuate! How to Handle Performance Problems,” on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Maui Economic Opportunity in Wailuku.

Bernard K. Nunies, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, with Kane‘ahanui Management Consulting, will provide supervisors, managers and human resource professionals with valuable insights into understanding and coaching employees who need further development to get their performance on track.

“One of the biggest challenges that supervisors, managers and human resource professionals face is how to address employee performance issues,” SHRM stated in its press release. “The first step is to determine the root cause of the issue—is it because an employee can’t do the work or because the employee won’t do it? Once root causes are identified, you can create a tailored plan of action with ‘moving forward.'”

Key takeaways from this program:

  • Understanding the benefits and challenges of employee engagement.
  • Learn tools to motivate and counsel those employees who refuse to perform, despite having capacity to do so.
  • Appropriate use of disciplinary action(s) in various circumstances.
  • Foster in group discussion by reviewing difference scenarios and discuss approaches that will work in motivating challenging employees.

Nunies has over 20 years of international business management and human resources experience. He attained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and spent 15 years with DFS Group, with his last position as Human Resources Director of Hawai‘i.
