Flood Warning Issued for Molokai, Flood Advisory Extended

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Molokai until early tomorrow morning.

Radar indicated slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms over eastern Molokai near Cape Halawa. Radar was showing rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour with rainfall continuously moving over eastern Molokai. Pukoo and Halaway Valley are also within this warning.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Move to higher ground now.

Radar indicated several areas of moderate to heavy rain continuing over parts of Molokai. Minor flooding will continue in the advisory area so the Flood Advisory has been extended until 10:30 p.m.

Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were recorded in some spots. The advisory includes the entire island of Molokai.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for parts of Maui County through 9:00 p.m.

Radar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Heavy rain was located near Hoolehua and slowly moving north at about 5 mph.

Some locations that may also experience flooding include, Hoolehua, Kualapuu, Maunaloa, Kaunakakai, Kepuhi, Molokai airport, Halawa Valley and Pukoo.

A Flash Flood Watch is posted through Saturday afternoon for all islands in Maui County. Saturated soils from recent rains are expected to increase the risk for flash flooding. Conditions will be favorable for heavy rainfall. Flood Advisories or Warnings may be posted at anytime during the duration of the watch.
