New Members Inducted into Lahaina Sunset Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, Maui’s newest Rotary club, has inducted three new members—Melissa Crawley, Melissa Fort and Craig Kuper.

Melissa Crawley writes the weekly television review column, Stay Tuned, for a division of GateHouse News Service. She is the author of Mr. Sorkin Goes To Washington: Shaping the President on Television’s The West Wing and is currently working on a second book. 

Crawley earned her PhD in media studies in Australia and has taught college courses in Australia and Hong Kong. She moved to Maui from Hong Kong earlier this year. 

Crawley was sponsored for membership by Liz May.

“The members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset have a genuine interest in one another and a real drive to help the local community,” said Crawley. “It’s a great combination and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Melissa Fort is a sales executive for Starwood Vacation Ownership at the Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas. She has had a long, successful real estate career in the Hawaiian Islands and on the Mainland. Fort lives in Lahaina and was recently elected president of her Homeowners’ Association board. 

Fort was sponsored by Sandy Schneider.

“I moved to Maui last year from O‘ahu and have been looking for ways to connect with the West Maui community, “ said Fort. “Lahaina Sunset Rotary is just what I’ve been looking for.”

Craig Kuper is a personal banking officer with First Hawaiian Bank in Lahaina. He assists clients and business owners with banking needs, including asset management, and personal and commercial loans. 

Kuper has been with the bank for 15 years and recently moved to Maui from O‘ahu. 

Kuper was sponsored by Carmen Karady.

“I joined Rotary to meet people who want to make a difference in our community,” said Kuper. “My goal is to help Lahaina Sunset Rotary change lives here in West Maui.”

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is a volunteer service organization of community leaders. The club meets on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays of each month at Royal Lahaina Resort, Kā‘anapali. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact President Sandy Schneider at 662-2611.
