SLIM Offers ‘Quick and Dirty’ Gardening Classes
The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui is offering four short classes in gardening- and farm-related subjects this month and next.
In three hours, students can learn how to plant fruit trees, test soil, start seedlings and more.
These “quick and dirty” sessions are designed with the busy, working person in mind—not too much time needs to be invested, but a bounty of information will be offered.
Gerry Ross is offering two, three-hour sessions at UH Maui College.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, “Soil Tests and Soil Amendments” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. This class will clarify how to use soil tests effectively and what organic soil amendments are available and beneficial.
On Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, Ross will present “Seeds and Plant Propagation,” the step-by-step to raising your own healthy seedlings.
Each class is $69.
Evan Ryan is offering two three-hour sessions: “Planting Fruit Trees 1 and 2.”
The first session on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, will be held at UH Maui College in the classroom, where Ryan will cover the principles and practices of planting fruit trees. The second session on Sunday, Oct. 25, will be held on a farm, so students can see for themselves how young fruit trees have been planted. Best-practice concepts will be included.
Each standalone class is $69.
Discounts are available for students who take more than one of these classes. To register, visit edventuremaui.com and click on “Agriculture and Horticulture” in the “Career Training” menu.
