Pi‘ilani Center to Host Halloween Spooktacular

Pi‘ilani Village Shopping Center invites the community to a safe Halloween event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. This free family event will feature a costume contest at 7 p.m. Registration will be held at the event booth beginning at 6:30 for children and adult categories. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

Participating merchants will pass out trick-or-treat candy and games with prizes will be hosted by the Seabury Hall, Class of 2016.

Brenton Keith and His Bag of Tricks and magician Timothy Wenk will provide sidewalk magic. The event will also include face painting, balloons, trunk-or-treat with 10 Maui classic cars.

Maui musician Willie K will perform from 6 to 7 p.m. Willie Kahaiali‘i (aka Willie K) has been entertaining audiences with his music since the age of 10. He has evolved into an eclectic and charismatic singer, songwriter, entertainer and now, actor. One of Hawai‘i’s most versatile talents, Willie K performs a myriad of musical genres, including Hawaiian, jazz, blues, reggae, rock, country western and even opera.

He has played with or opened for musical giants, such as B.B. King, Santana, Al DiMeola, Willie Nelson, Prince, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Rait, Jackson Browne, Mick Fleetwood, George Benson, Jimmy Buffett and more.

In 2009, he toured Germany with Simply Red, and in 2013 held his first Uncle Willie K’s BBQ Blues Festival on Maui featuring Elvin Bishop, Angela Strehli and Steven Tyler.

During his Second Annual Blues Fest, Willie brought Billy F. Gibbons, Mick Fleetwood, Pat Simmons and legendary bluesman Robert Belfour to the stage.

Willie released his first CD, Kahaiali‘i in 1992 and has since earned multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards for his many CD recordings and was also a Grammy Music Awards nominee. His latest CD, Warehouse Blues, was released in October 2011. The long-awaited blues album, full of all original songs, won “Rock Album of the Year” at this year’s Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards.

Willie’s latest CD recorded in Berlin, Germany, has hit the airwaves with popular tunes With or Without You, Have I Told You and Sarah Smile, all with an ‘ukulele twist, hence the name Twisted ‘Ukulele.
