3 Arrests, 6 Traffic Citations at 2015 Halloween in Lahaina Event

There were a total of three arrests and six traffic citations issued during the 2015 Halloween in Lahaina event on Front Street on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. Police say one adult female was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of an Intoxicant. Police also arrested a juvenile male and a juvenile female for disorderly conduct and prohibitions involving minors.

The statistics are for incidents along Front Street only–overall Halloween numbers were not released.

Police estimate a crowd of between 20,000 and 25,000 people attended the annual event, down from the 28,000 estimate in 2014 despite the event falling on a Saturday this year.

Police say the keiki parade earlier in the evening drew an estimated 1,000 participants. The parade started kicked off the Front Street events at 4:30 p.m., with participants waling south on Front Street from Papalaua toward the Banyan Tree Park.

Upon completion of the keiki parade, Front Street remained closed to motorist.

A total of 100 officers were assigned to the event, joining personnel from the Maui Fire Department, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Sheriffs, Prosecutors Office and Liquor Control.

Police issued a press release following the event saying, “personnel were able to address concerns and provide assistance as needed.Maui Police Department would like to thank the efforts by the Lahaina Community and Merchants that help make Halloween on Front Street 2015 a successful, safe and family friendly environment.”

The road was reopened at around 11 p.m. without incident as pedestrians were asked to move from the street to sidewalks upon the conclusion of scheduled events.
