25 Fugitives Arrested in Four-Day Crackdown in Kona
Members of the US Marshals, Hawaiʻi County Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this week conducted a four-day operation in Kona targeting fugitives with outstanding state felony arrest warrants.
The crackdown began on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, and focused on fugitives wanted for crimes of violence, including alleged: homicide, assault, robbery, firearms and explosives, sex offenses, narcotics, and gang and organized crime affiliations.
The four-day operation resulted in the arrest of 25 fugitives, the execution of 42 outstanding state arrest warrants, and generated a total bail amount of $686,750 for all warrants executed.
In addition, police also seized 3.94 pounds of processed and packaged marijuana, 18 marijuana plants, and various amounts of acetaminophen with hydrocodone and hashish, with supplies for narcotics distribution from a residence where a fugitive was located and arrested on a firearms and narcotics warrant. All seized narcotics were turned over to HCPD Officers for further investigation and prosecution of new charges.
Authorities say the joint efforts of the US Marshals, HCPD, and ATF in conjunction with the Hawaiʻi High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, “showcased the importance of multi-agency operations to maximize resources and make the biggest impact against crime in our communities. By doing so a large number of fugitives wanted for violent crimes and large amounts of narcotics were removed from the streets in a short amount of time making our communities safer.”
The US Marshals Hawaiʻi Task Force is comprised of various federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies, including: the Maui Police Department, Hawaiʻi County Police Department, Kauaʻi Police Department, Honolulu Police Department, State of Hawaiʻi Attorney General’s Office, Honolulu Prosecutor’s Office, State of Hawaiʻi Probation, US Customs and Border Protection, US Social Security Administration Office of Investigations, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Enforcement and Removal Operations, and Hawaii HIDTA.
