Hawai‘i-based artists Gabrielle Anderman and Melissa Chimera will be featured in a new Hui No‘eau exhibition on display from March 11 to April 29.

The exhibition opens with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11.

This Hui’s Solo Artist Exhibition challenges emerging and established artists to exhibit a complete, new body of work. As one of the only shows in the state that provides the unique opportunity for artist to be personally involved in all facets of the exhibition planning and installation, the exhibit advances careers, spurs community dialogue and continues to define our local visual arts movement.

This highly anticipated exhibition provides the community with intimate access to the participating artists, gaining a critical perspective on the way they work, and how and why their body of work came to be.

Anderman will present Being Here, which explores her relationship to the present. In particular, Anderman is interested in the ways in which her mind keeps her distracted, preventing her from experiencing the present moment.

Chimera will present Agents of Change—a series of mixed media works on linen about extinction, globalization and our role as humans in these processes. Chimera juxtaposes the catastrophic implications of the subject matter with a method firmly grounded in formal elements of painting combined with the treatment of linen as a textile.
