A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder following an incident at Haycraft Park in Māʻalaea at around 6:21 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Police identified the suspect as Justin Shepherd, 33, who has no local address, and said he was being held in lieu of $1,000,000 at last report.

The charges stem from a report in which a 38-year-old Haʻikū woman called police to report her boyfriend allegedly tried to strike her and her 13-year-old daughter with his vehicle.

Police responded to the area and found the suspect still in the vehicle. Police say the suspect noticed the officers and allegedly drove his vehicle into the officer’s vehicle causing damages.

Prior to the collision, one officer exited the passenger side of the vehicle while the other officer stayed inside the vehicle as they both “feared of being struck,” according to department reports.

Police say the suspect made no attempts to maneuver around the patrol vehicle.  Both officers were able to subdue the suspect and placed him under arrest without further incident.
