Arrests Made in Armed Bank Robbery

Maui police arrested and charged Michael Soto, 50, and Sandra Kahikina, 24, both from Kahului, with first degree robbery in connection with an incident reported on Feb. 26, 2016 at the Territorial Savings Bank in Lahaina.

The arrests were made on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at around 8:14 p.m.; and the charges were filed on Friday, March 11, 2016 at around 6:30 p.m.

Police say an investigation reveals the male suspect entered the bank, gave the teller a bag and demanded she place money within, while brandishing an unknown type of firearm. The male suspect allegedly fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Bail was set in the amount of $250,000 each.

Police say Kahikina was released to District Court at 10:19 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016; and Soto was released to the Maui Community Correctional Center at around 8:23 p.m. on Monday March 14, 2016.

The investigation has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.
